Egbewole Inaugurates Committee to Develop Innovative Student Certification Programmes

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has inaugurated a Technical Committee to create innovative student certification programmes. This initiative aims to provide value-added opportunities for students, helping them integrate meaningfully into the Nigerian system and enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial skills.

Prof. Egbewole expressed confidence in the committee members, describing them as capable of delivering the task. He emphasized the importance of making the initiative accessible to all students by minimizing associated costs. The programme will be shared with student leadership, faculties, and the University Senate for final approval once the committee finalizes the certification template. The initiative will draw inspiration from the Blue Economy Initiative, aimed at maximizing students’ time in ways that add value to their lives.

Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, Chairman of the Committee, highlighted that the entrepreneurship certification will provide students with dual qualifications: a degree from the University of Ilorin and a specialized certification in entrepreneurship. This will enhance their competitiveness in the job market. He also mentioned that the programme will cover essential areas such as Information Technology (IT), digital skills, and innovation ideation, with students needing to accumulate points across various modules.

The Committee will collaborate with the Blue Economy, the Centre for Management Leadership, and the Innovation Hub to ensure the programme’s overall success. Other members of the committee include Prof. Usman Adebimpe Raheem, Dr. Abdulkarim Ayopo Oloyede, Mrs. Azeezat Quadri-Ibrahim, and several experts from various departments across the university.

This initiative is expected to greatly enhance the employability and entrepreneurial capabilities of the university’s graduates.
